The Only Game In Town
"The Only Game In Town" is a comedy feature film written, produced and
directed by Stuart Cresswell. The film was shot on locations in Tatamagouche,
River John, Scotsburn and New Glasgow between December 2014 and August 2015 and
is currently in festival release around the world!
A Troubled Production The film had begun production in Nova Scotia just as the provincial
Government scrapped the film tax credit and threw the industry into turmoil.
Having been assured that films that had started were to receive funding as per
the now dead system, the production managed to struggle through when many other
productions ground to a halt. Because of schedule changes the film lost its
director Cory Bowles, but the producers stayed true to the cast of 40+ mostly
young people that had worked on the film for more than a year.
A small group of committed people completed a funny and charming coming of age
The saga of how the film somehow managed to keep going, despite anticipated
funding being withdrawn and an ongoing battle to secure the vital tax credits, is told in
Stuart Cresswell's honest, funny and emotional book THE ONLY FILM IN TOWN published
by Nimbus Publishing.
A sit-com too? Producers are working on creating a TV sit-com based on the themes and
characters. For a small film, there is certainly a lot going on around it.
